Summary - Grain Skinning: Phenotypic analysis of genotyped varieties to identify QTL Structural & biochemical analysis of resistant & susceptible varieties Transcriptomic analysis to detect genes involved in skinning Identify candidate genes that cause/influence skinning Skinning screen for breeders Causal/developmental information for growers Improve skinning quantification for maltsters Target genes for breeding new varieties Summary - Harvest 2013 Report: Very high variability much local variation Yields disappointing but up on last year Yield and quality improved from south to north Crop stress during hot July and cold September Nitrogen up by 0.1% to 0.2% on last year, with some maltsters raising their intake specification Bold grain and good specific weight
