Each year, we need to help connect students and supervisors. Supervisors need a way of communicating topics and areas of expertise to students. Students need a way of easily searching and filtering for projects and supervisors that match their interests. We had a very limited capacity to do this. When I took over the MSc, this was done in a word file that was emailed to students. I updated this to a SharePoint-based system with Jarlath, but students found that very difficult to use (as did staff). I tested using a discussion board/blog format through the University VLE environment, but that was not easy to maintain or search. In 2019 I built a WordPress site that enables staff to maintain a set of projects they are want to offer, and that enables students to conduct filter/search through projects with ease. David Healey helped me bring it to life within SRUC systems. This site covers three of four MSc programmes delivered in conjunction with the School of GeoSciences.
