CIEL Webinar: Emerging Technologies in Animal Health

Activity: Talk, evidence or presentation typesInvited talk

Description

About this event
Innovation is a necessity in the drive to improve animal health and in our attempts to reach Net Zero. This webinar will highlight latest results from three innovative research projects within our industry member network focusing on:

1) How on-farm diagnostics can rapidly detect parasitic infections, supporting improvements in productivity and sustainability
2) The alternatives to zinc oxide in pig diets
3) How an early mastitis detection tool improves disease surveillance and improves milk yields.

We are delighted to have the following excellent speakers:

Harriet Scott, Operations Director, RAFT
Development and Optimisation of the FECPAK System to Speciate Protozoan Infections in Livestock and Improve Productivity and Sustainability.
FECPAKg2 system is a rapid on-farm diagnostic platform for faecal egg count testing currently used to detect parasitic nematode infections in ruminants and equids. This project is assessing the feasibility of adapting the FECPAKg2 system to detect protozoan parasites, alongside development and integration with image recognition software to automatically and objectively speciate using digital images of un-sporulated oocysts.

Dr Salvatore Galgano Academic Research Scientist, SRUC, and Dr Adrian Fellows, Non-Executive Director, Aga2tech Ltd
Peracetic acid precursors as alternatives to supra-nutritional levels of zinc oxide in weaned pigs.
Zinc oxide is currently being phased out of diets to treat diarrhoea in post-weaning pigs. Hear about work underway at SRUC/AGA2tech to identify an alternative solution.

Professor Jonathan Statham, Chief Executive, RAFT
RapiPath – Early mastitis detection tool
Developing a broad-spectrum mastitis diagnostic test and software solution for improved milk yields, disease surveillance and product assurance.

CIEL is happy to receive registrations from up to 2 people per Member organisation to allow an audience that is balanced across our Membership. If you want to put forward a case for more than 2 people to attend, please contact CIEL.
