New AI tool to quickly summarise disease information for farmers

Press/Media

Description

Scientists are developing a new webtool which will use Artificial Intelligence to give time-pressured farmers tailored advice on how to protect their livestock from disease.

The device is being developed in a project by Scotland’s Rural College (SRUC) and Moredun which would quickly summarise official documentation on animal biosecurity,  and deliver detail most relevant to an individual farmer’s needs at the time.

To help farmers get the most out of the new technology, a webinar will be held to demonstrate how the tool can be used to search for and summarise guidance for reducing risk of different livestock diseases on farm.

Industry input is crucial to ensure the tool is useful and effective, and researchers are inviting farmers  to participate in the project and provide valuable feedback.

SRUC’s Project Lead Dr Kate Lamont says  ‘This new tool could make life easier for farmers looking to get the information they need about how to reduce risk of diseases on their farm in a quick, accessible way.  It would be great to hear from farmers who would like to know more about it.’

You can register to join the half hour session at 12 noon on Wednesday the 26th of March 2025 here -  https://events.teams.microsoft.com/event/7319223d-0176-4d67-97e7-12483c8c0714@c8542d98-e64c-446e-b8d5-0c98ffe56526

The project is funded by the Scottish Government through a SEFARI Innovation and Knowledge Exchange grant.
