Dr Hannah Rudman is Reader and Co-Director of SRUC's Thriving Natural Capital Challenge Centre. Hannah’s digital and data innovation applied research and development work is grounded in interdisciplinary Participatory Action Research, which is practice-led rather than practice-based. Hannah's current interests are in how digital technologies and their data can trustably validate and prove the natural economy sector’s positive influence on carbon sequestration, biodiversity and nature improvements – digital measurement, reporting and verification (dMRV). Can digital technologies and digital data build human trust in the reporting of food quality and security, natural economy and climate truths? Hannah convenes Trustable Credit, the project co-creating open standardised processes for digital devices and their data measuring carbon sequestration, biodiversity and nature improvements.
Hannah is an Expert Evaluator for the European Commission’s Executive Research Agency. She serves on the Executive Management Team of UK Agritech Centre Agrimetrics, and co-leads the Scottish Nature Finance Pioneers Group (240 organisations from farm to finance developing natural capital projects). Hannah is a winning team of Unboxed, a £120m festival of 10 commissions. Part of Dandelion, the £8.5m Scottish commission, a unique STEAM approach to community growing, ’21-‘22, Hannah has co-created an app and IoT Node for participating schools to use with the vertical farms they have received.
Hannah is an experienced non-executive director, and serves as Board Trustee for the National Galleries of Scotland, as Director of the NGS Trading Company, and as Director of Highlands Rewilding. Hannah serves on numerous Scottish and UK public policy advisory boards, committees and working groups. She has a PhD in Information Systems (Computer Science), and previously reached the top of a professional career as a digital transformation consultant, building and licensing her framework internationally to global technology solutions and consultancy companies.
