Biography

My academic career has been focused on high dimensional phenotypes, functional annotation of livestock genomic datasets and prototyping bioinformatic software pipelines. My unique experiences, first as a mixed practice veterinarian, and then transitioning into a bioinformatician has enabled me to actively participate and direct a number of projects aimed at the betterment of livestock system outcomes. I have contributed to several international livestock genomic initiatives e.g. Genotype Plus Environment consortium, BovineMine.org, Functional Annotation of Animal Genomes (FAANG) and Centre for Tropical Livestock Genetics and Health (CTLGH) and continue to expand my multidisciplinary collaborations with this scientific community. Producing and maintaining biological Big Data, I have developed a unique cross-disciplinary skill set. I enjoy working with real-world Data Science projects and digitisation workflows in R&D environments. Since 2020 I have been consulting on multiple Data Science driven and Business Analytics projects via industry led collaborations within the Life BioSciences and AgriTech sectors.

During my career as a passionate educator, I have supervised and supported students and researchers in higher education within wet and dry lab experimental setups. In doing so I obtained my associate fellowship of the Higher Education Academy (HEA) in 2017.
