My current work develops a transitional vulnerability framework applied to agri-food resilience, community woodland governance, and rural business sustainability. I published a reverse-logic analysis of nature-based solution treescapes across Europe in the International Journal of Environmental Research and Public Health (2026), as part of the EU Horizon COEVOLVERS project. My wider interests include supply chain vulnerability, farm digitalisation and technology adoption, food security, and participatory research methods in rural contexts.

I am a Lecturer and Researcher in the Department of Agriculture and Business Management at Scotland's Rural College (SRUC), based at the Ferguson Building, Craibstone Estate, Aberdeen. My research sits at the intersection of agri-food systems, rural entrepreneurship, and nature-based solutions, with a particular focus on how communities and supply chains absorb and recover from disruption and change.

Before joining SRUC, I was a Research Scientist at the James Hutton Institute, where I led rural digitalisation and Living Lab research across multiple European countries. I spent twelve years as a Senior Lecturer at Nelson Mandela University in South Africa, where I supervised postgraduate students, held an acting Head of Department role, and developed university-wide training in qualitative research methods.

My applied background includes nine years in international agribusiness supply chains, managing ostrich product exports to North American markets. That industry experience shapes how I approach research: I am interested in what actually happens at the farm gate and in rural communities, not just what policy frameworks assume should happen.

I supervise MSc dissertations across four programmes at SRUC and am open to enquiries from prospective students with interests in supply chain vulnerability, agri-food resilience, rural enterprise, or nature-based solutions. My teaching background includes Masters-level modules in Agricultural Management, Research Methodology, Supply Chain Management, and Food Production Systems, developed over twelve years at Nelson Mandela University.

I have supervised Masters students to completion at Nelson Mandela University in areas including agribusiness, supply chain management, and food security. I currently supervise MSc dissertation students at SRUC across programmes in Agribusiness Management and related fields. I have also examined five postgraduate theses as external examiner at PhD and MSc level.

I hold an ISO 14001:2015 Internal Auditor certification (IEMA) and am a certified ATLAS.ti Qualitative Data Analysis professional trainer. I have experience in stakeholder engagement, participatory workshop facilitation, and applied agricultural research in commercial and policy contexts across South Africa, Namibia, Sweden, Belgium, and Scotland.
