Balancing amino acids to improve nitrogen use efficiency in dairy cows fed extensively fermented grass silage

Project Details

Description

The project will evaluate the benefits, in terms of milk protein yield and Nitrogen Use Efficiency (NUE, = milk N output / N intake) of lowering the concentration of crude protein and optimising the profile of metabolisable amino acids in diets for lactating dairy cows. While evidence to support this strategy already exists, there is a dearth of data relevant to diets based on extensively fermented grass silage.
