Can Bulk Milk Revolutionise TB Testing?

Project Details

Description

The objective is to evaluate the bovine tuberculosis (bTB) status in a dairy herd using bTB antibody tests in the bulk milk.

The lead organisation, Synergy Farm Health Ltd, together with NMR (research partner) will collect bulk milk data from 5,000 dairy herds in milk recording. Sampling will be repeated 3 times in each herd, and antibody load and number of antigens will be determined in each sample.

Subsequently, these data will be matched with bTB data from national surveillance and bTB predictions from antibody/antigen profiles will be developed and validated. This will constitute the SRUC involvement in the project.
