Connecting actors to enhance multifunctionality in grass-based livestock sector through ecosystem service monitoring and informed decision-making

Project Details

Description

SRUC is a lead a WP on development of grassland management tools. The premise of the project is to use tools (from scorecards to dynamic models) to improve grassland management for ruminants. This includes both production aspects and the delivery of ecosystem services (includes tools that measure these as evidence for payment schemes). . WP 1 - We will have a MAG hub (Multi-actor Grassland)  facilitated by SAC Consulting (David Ross) and Robin Walker in the Feugh catchment. A small but important (for salmon) tributary of the Dee. Work has gone on before on water quality in the catchment but not on grassland management. We will test and use a variety of tools developed by ourselves and others related to productivity and ecosystem services- including a Eurofins NIRS scanner for grass quality.
WP3 - led by CW - Here we will be responsible for creating an inventory and shortlist of tools available across the partners for improving grassland management/measuring & monitoring ecosystem service delivery. This will utilise existign datasets that belong to us and other partners. WE will assist in selecting tools and test beds for those tools with other partners.
