Data, models and optimisation of waste flows in vertical farming

Project Details

Description

This project will provide a demonstrator of the circularity of food wastes in urban areas using vertical farming. This impact on our urban areas will be achieved by developing capabilities in data science. In particular we will source and harmonise data, then create models of the waste flows in urban areas and optimise those flows to minimise carbon impact. We will focus on two use cases of (1) using restaurant food waste as feed for hydroponic vertical farms and (2) using brewery waste as feed for producing construction materials for the construction of new vertical farms or retrofit insulation of existing vertical farms.
