Project Details
Description
SRUC Veterinary Services has submitted Staphylococcus aureus isolates to the Scottish MRSA Reference Laboratory since 2007. During the period 2015-2018, isolates were spa-typed. The results of antimicrobial sensitivity tests (AST) are also known for many of the isolates It is intended to bring the data up-to-date by spa-typing some of the isolates between 2018-2022 and performing ASTs where they have not been performed. In addition, a number of selected spa types will receive whole genome sequencing. The results of all analyses will be collated to investigate the relationship between strain types and antimicrobial resistance (phenotypic and genotypic) in a population-base study of S. aureus mastitis in Scotland over a 15 year period. A comparison with cS. aureus isolates recovered from humans in Scotland will also be investigated.
