The “To Zero Fifty” Greenhouse Gas Accounting Living Lab

Project Details

Description

By 2050, demonstrating net zero greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions will become as important for business trading as credit worthiness, and establishing the framework for demonstrating this is an important research area. The project aim is to improve net zero validation, enabling the balanced transition of UK land use for net zero, nature, and people using a “living lab” of 50 representative land-based businesses called the “To Zero Fifty”. The project has five objectives.
1. To engage with public, industry and policy stakeholders on the journey of the “To Zero Fifty”.
2. To determine the consistency and uncertainty in the sequestration and emission predictions for the “To Zero Fifty” businesses using three GHG calculators.
3. To compare the predicted sequestration of woodlands, agroforestry, and grassland with measurements.
4. To explore the most cost-effective way of validating the predicted sequestration and emissions.
5. To explore the most equitable division of liability and benefits between landlords and tenants.
