Project Details
Description
In this 1 year feasability project, SRUC will measure methane emissions on ~120 ram lambs. Emissions will be recorded using SRUC's new UKRI-funded portable accumulation chambers (PAC) for sheep. The lambs will be from a number of sire lines and the aim is to get preliminary data on: the feasibility to measure methane emissions on-farm; variability within animals; “baseline” for the flock's emissions; comparison of results with current data from NZ; differences in bloodlines on the farm. Other pedigree, performance and genotype data will also be recorded on the flock.
