UltraGreenCow: Comprehensive greenhouse gas and ammonia emissions measurement capacity for large ruminant production

Project Details

Description

This project will create a world class facility for measurement of greenhouse gas (CH4, CO2 and N2O) and ammonia emissions from cattle. The facility will be built upon the existing GreenCow respiration chamber structure, but will include heated sampling lines (essential for accurate ammonia measurement), improved more efficient and reliable air-handling system, state-of-the-art gas analysis array, and integrated system control unit (hardware and software). Increasing the capacity to measurement of N2O and ammonia will provide a more complete picture of the actual environmental impacts of mitigation measures (assessment of trade-offs) and ensure the relevance of the facility into the future.
