A short opinion piece for December 2022 edition of Farm North East (editor Eddie Gillanders). As the journal is print only we have permission to publish the article electronically. The article looks at how agricultural support in Scotland will remain as it currently is (subject to annual budget settlements from Westminster) until 2025. How the expectation is that there will be new cross compliance type measures introduced in 2025, with transition to new support schemes kicking off in 2026. The article looks at some of the findings from the National Test Programme - testing actions for sustainable farming phase one and what it tells us in terms of future conditionality and expectations on the industry
