Abstract

Scottish economy is exposed to several adverse shocks. Examples of these shock include the UK exiting the EU (Brexit), COVID-19 pandemic and the lockdown, and Russia-Ukraine Invasion. These shocks disrupted the food supply chains that serve the country as well as those exporting products to the rest of the UK and abroad. A sector that particularly affected was by the COVID-19 pandemic and the lockdown was Accommodation and food service sector. The purpose of the analysis was to assess the impact of the contraction of the Accommodation and food service sector on the food and drinks sectors of the economy. Specifically:
1. To explore the degree of resilience of the Scottish food and drinks sector, 2. To estimate the effects of the disruption on interconnected sectors of the economy; 3. To estimate the economic losses which is the financial value associated with reductions in output.
