A short opinion piece for August 2023 edition of Farm North East (editor Eddie Gillanders). As the journal is print only we have permission to publish the article electronically. The article looks at the announcements made by the Cabinet Secretary for Rural Affairs and Islands on new 2025 agricultural support conditions. These include new cross compliance measures relating to peatland and wetland protection, new calving interval conditions for the Scottish Suckler Beef Support Scheme, and new requirements on a 'whole farm plan' (including soil sampling, biodiversity audit, carbon audit and animal health and welfare plan).
