Abstract

Today’s diet has high animal protein and low plant protein. Overconsumption of animal protein contribute to NCD and climate change. UK’s Eatwell Guide encourages moderate animal protein consumption and a high amount of animal protein. However, it is not clear how a shift from animal protein towards plant protein would affect diet quality. The goal of the present work is to estimate how a shift from animal protein to plant proteins affect nutrition or diet quality in Scotland. Specifically: to estimate both own- and cross- price elasticities for both plant and animal protein sources. To estimate changes in demand due to price increases in the animal protein category. To estimate how this affect net total average macronutrient purchases.
