Abstract
This article aims to check the state, evolution and causes of the competitiveness of
Antioquia industrial exports in the period 1977-2000. This region has been the
Colombia industrial leader and has been prone to defend the protectionist regime.
Using a Seemingly Unrelated Regressions (SUR) regression model, the authors
conclude that less taxes and industrial efficiency improvements are two factors
influencing the exporting competitiveness of Antioquia and its output re-orientation to the international markets.
