Abstract

The following report presents the results of a survey of estates in Scotland. The work wascommissioned by Scottish Land and Estates (SLE) and carried out by a team from Rural Solutions andScotland’s Rural College (SRUC). The information presented in this report is based on the estimatesprovided in survey responses and should therefore be treated as indicative as opposed to definitivewith respect to total figures. This work was carried out in parallel with a second projectcommissioned by the Cairngorms National Park Authority (CNPA) with Scottish Land and Estates andled by Dr Rob McMorran from Scotland’s Rural College (SRUC) and the University of Highlands andIslands which involved a survey of landowners in the Cairngorms National Park. The data used forthe Cairngorms report was collected through the same survey process and the data collected in theCairngorms area was utilised in this national work, but the two reports are independent and theCNPA has not had any involvement in this wider project. The two projects were run in parallel tobenefit from the single data collection exercise.
