Abstract
A quantitative analysis of how vulnerable (or the opposite, how resilient) the Scottish beef supply chain to different types of shocks (e.g., changes in input and output prices) starts with a model of the chain. The idea is to have a model that represents the
different stages of the supply chain and as disaggregated as possible (e.g., regional). Modelling has several difficulties because information of the chain is incomplete, inexistent, difficult to collect and Scottish produce interacts with other origins. The focus of interest is on the resilience of farming to changes in cost of production and how changes in the retail market affect the farming sector.
