Abstract
Extending the 2020 Scottish Government 8-fold Urban Rural Classification the NISRIE analytical framework creates new classifications for 'Islands' and 'Very Remote Mainland' areas of Scotland. This is applied at data zone and intermediate zone levels to develop a more nuanced lens with which to assess the socio-economic performance of Scotland's most peripheral (from urban centres) communities and economies.
