Peer review of Habitat Classification System recommendations and proposed next steps in development of a Scottish Biodiversity Metric

Abstract

This report evaluates the quality and credibility of the NatureScot Commissioned review produced by Averis and Averis (2025) “A review of habitat classifications for their potential use in a Scottish Biodiversity Metric”. The report also provides comment on two draft NatureScot documents, (1) "Choosing a habitat classification approach for the Scottish biodiversity metric: Rationale for the proposed approach", and (2) "Choosing a terrestrial habitat classification system to provide data for the Scottish biodiversity metric - draft signalling for the NatureScot metric website".
