Abstract

This policy spotlight is the third in a series of five that address the key persistent challenges of rural housing, depopulation, and exclusion/marginalisation. It provides some context about rural populations and population change as well as an overview of some rural initiatives in Scotland relating to population change. The other spotlights in this series are: Rural and Island Policy in Scotland, Contextualising the Rural, Scotland's Rural Landscape, Implications and Emerging Opportunities, Housing in Scotland's Rural and Island Communities, and Social Exclusion and Marginalised Voices in Scotland's Rural and Island Communities.
