Abstract
Scottish Recommended Lists for Cereals 2025/26
The Scottish cereals lists include varieties of spring and winter barley, wheat and
oats of most agronomic and commercial value to Scottish growers and the cereals sector.
Recommendations are made by SRUC supported by the Scottish Variety
Consultative Committee and are based on data collected as part of the AHDB
Recommended List and the BSPB and Scottish Government National List systems.
Comings and goings for 2025/26
The spring barley list includes four new varieties, SY Arrow, Firecracker,
Ptarmigan and KWS Enduris, with potential for both malt distilling and brewing.
Four varieties have been removed from the list: NOS Munro, RGT Planet, SY Signet and NOS Gambit.
The winter barley list includes six new two-row feed varieties: NOS Olena, KWS
Heraclis, Kitty, KWS Valencis, Rosemary and Organa. The are also three new sixrow hybrids: SY Quantock, Inys and SY Kestrel, and a conventional six-row variety, Integral. The following eight varieties have been removed: Craft, LG Mountain, Lightning, Bolivia, KWS Feeris, SY Kingston, SY Thunder bolt and SY Buzzard.
The new winter wheat list has added the soft feed and distilling variety, RGT
Hexton along with the biscuit-making and distilling choices, KWS Solitaire and
KWS Flute. The hard feed wheat KWS Scope joins three new Group 2 milling
varieties: KWS Newbie, LG Shergar and KWS Arnie. Four varieties have been
removed from the list: Swallow, RGT Stokes, LG Illuminate and KWS Brium.
The spring wheat list includes three new varieties: WPB Fraser, Ophelia and
KWS Bezique. Whilst removals are Mulika, KWS Cochise and KWS Fixum.
There is one new spring oat, Caledon, with Asterion being removed. In winter
oats, there are no new additions, but the long-standing Gerald has been
removed.
