Abstract
Organised by SRUC's Rural Policy Centre, this Policy Lab event brought together a small group of individuals who have experience of running rural businesses and/or knowledge and understanding of the public sector business support system in Scotland. The discussion focused on exploring the extent to which the current business support system meets the needs of rural businesses. Discussion then turned to what needs to change and in what ways to ensure a more effective support system for rural businesses in the future, including a review of who needs to be involved in making these changes and the most appropriate timescale for them. The discussion at the Policy Lab, summarised in this Policy Spotlight, will inform the work of the Advisory Council set up by the Scottish Government to help shape its new 10-year National Strategy for Economic Transformation.
