This paper discusses the future direction and shape of rural policy in Scotland after
‘Brexit’, i.e. when the UK leaves the European Union (EU), building on reviews of previous rural policies and strategies in Scotland since devolution, theoretical
approaches to rural development, international work on rural development policy, and current (non-rural) policy drivers in Scotland
